On July 16, the Vietnam Sustainable Construction Forum (VSCF 2026) officially returned to Hanoi, bringing together professional associations, enterprises from the construction, building materials, and real estate sectors, financial institutions, and domestic and international experts to work toward creating a sustainable future for Vietnam’s construction industry.<\/p>\n

The forum aims to establish a clear development roadmap for the construction industry on its journey toward achieving Net Zero by 2050. Its key topics include scaling up green construction, transitioning from green buildings to low-emission cities, decarbonizing the built environment in Southeast Asia, and advancing three key pillars: materials, technology, and finance.<\/p>\n

The forum is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and the Hanoi People’s Committee.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh acknowledged the positive progress made in developing green buildings and green building materials.<\/p>\n

To date, Vietnam has approximately 828 certified green buildings, with a total floor area of around 20.8 million square meters, exceeding the target set.<\/p>\n

Many enterprises have actively responded to this initiative, notably through the development of approximately 2,900 production facilities for non-fired building materials.<\/p>\n

The industry is also transitioning from fossil fuels to lower-emission alternatives, such as switching from coal to gas. Furthermore, the use of industrial waste, including fly ash, slag, and gypsum, in building material production is gaining traction in line with the circular economy approach.<\/p>\n

However, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Sinh also highlighted major challenges facing the industry.<\/p>\n

First, the costs of technological innovation and green construction solutions remain high, while businesses have limited capacity to mobilize the necessary resources. In addition, some enterprises and building users do not yet fully understand the long-term benefits of green buildings.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister also noted that policies on green credit, investment incentives, taxation, and financial instruments supporting the green transition need to become more attractive to encourage enterprises to take decisive action.<\/p>\n

Mr. Nguyen Van Sinh highly appreciated VSCF as a platform that brings together policymakers, experts, and businesses to share knowledge and facilitate investment connections. The forum also creates opportunities to strengthen knowledge exchange and introduce advanced technologies and solutions that promote the development of green buildings and building materials.<\/p>\n

In his opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), affirmed that sustainable development serves as a “passport” enabling enterprises to export their products and enhance their competitiveness.<\/p>\n

The VCCI Vice Chairman also stated that the commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 is not merely an environmental pledge but also a driving force for transforming the growth model.<\/p>\n

He further emphasized that the buildings constructed today will determine the quality of life and climate resilience of future generations.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, he encouraged businesses to use the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) as a reference tool for corporate governance and responsible business transformation.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the green transition should be a process embraced by small, medium-sized, and micro-enterprises, rather than being limited to large corporations.<\/p>\n

Acknowledging these contributions, Mr. Dinh Hong Ky, Chairman of the VSCF 2026 Organizing Committee and President of the Ho Chi Minh City Construction and Building Materials Association (SACA), emphasized that sustainable development is no longer an option but has become a prerequisite for the construction industry to enhance its competitiveness in the new era.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, Mr. Dinh Hong Ky pledged that the Ho Chi Minh City Construction and Building Materials Association and the Vietnam Sustainable Construction Forum would listen to the difficulties and challenges faced by enterprises and convey their concerns to the relevant authorities, while also communicating new regulations in a manner that makes them as easy as possible for businesses to understand and implement.<\/p>\n

During the opening ceremony, the Ministry of Construction presented a Certificate of Merit to the Ho Chi Minh City Construction and Building Materials Association in recognition of its efforts and effective contributions to the green transition toward a circular and low-emission economy.<\/p>\n
